Security obligations
All access to the Port and its terminals must be in possession of a valid personal access and circulation permit at all times.
All persons accessing the Port and its terminals is subject, within the port security limits, to controls, by approved port security officers, of their access and movement permit, their person, their vehicles and baggage/goods (including visual inspection).
Anyone is entitled to refuse to have their person, vehicles and baggage/goods checked. Access to the Port and terminals will then be systematically denied. Depending on the situation, the internal security forces may be called in immediately. The person refusing the inspection assumes full responsibility for the consequences of refusing access to the port area and its terminals.
Security measures and controls
Security measures and controls are carried out in accordance with the French Transport Code, art L5332-11 et seq and associated articles, as well as the prefectoral orders in force and relating to the security of the Port and its port facilities.
Port security staff carrying out control, screening and surveillance operations are specifically trained and systematically approved by both the Public Prosecutor and the Prefect, notably after a prior administrative enquiry.
Access control
At all times, vehicle and pedestrian access to the port area and its terminals is systematically subject to prior identification of the person and vehicle via access control systems.
On a daily basis, 24/7, random checks of access and movement permits are carried out by approved port security staff at access points, terminals and in the port area. In addition to presenting your access permit, you may be asked to show an original, valid identity document in order to cross-check your identity.

General surveillance
The port area and its terminals are under permanent surveillance, in particular through security patrols and the implementation of electronic detection and video protection / video surveillance systems under 24/7 supervision.
Intervention and performance of duties by internal security forces
In accordance with the Special Port Police Regulations in force, the internal security forces are authorised to access the port area and to carry out all their duties freely, including the detection and characterisation of offences, in particular those relating to the French Highway Code, Criminal Code or Transport Code, depending on their jurisdiction.
Access rights - Rectification of personal data
Information collected on forms as part of the security and protection process, including photographs where necessary, number plate scans and access data, is recorded in a computerised file. They are kept for a period not exceeding 3 years.
The video protection system and the video surveillance system are subject to prior legal declarations and/or authorisations. Images are kept for up to 30 days as required by law.
Access control data cannot be used to check the time or effectiveness of a job. They are intended solely for the purpose of implementing regulatory security measures, in application of the ISPS Code. They are communicated, by judicial requisition only, to internal security forces and investigating departments.
In accordance with the French Data Protection Act of 1978, as amended, and the European Regulation (GDPR 2016/679), any person may exercise his or her right of access to data concerning him or her and have it rectified by contacting the Grand Port Maritime de la Rochelle (GPMLR) Security Mission Manager – +33 (0)5 46 00 53 60. The GPMLR's Data Protection Officer is responsible for monitoring the register of personal data and its use in full compliance with the regulations in force.
